Anybody that made it safely through the holiday season knows one thing for sure, and that is the fact that the Echo and Echo Dot were the huge breakaway hits.
In April of 2016 it was reported that 3 million units of Echo were sold.
Then, the Tap became available in April. Granted, it is my gut instinct that the Tap is not the most popular of the three products, but it still rounds out the family of devices.
Then, The Dot was unveiled in March, but only to current Echo owners. The 2nd generation Dot became available in October 2016.
By the end of November Variety reported that over 5 million units were sold (combined all models)
By the end of the year, it has been reported that Amazon sold 9X as many Echo devices as the previous year.
In summary, we know it was the run-away hits of the year, that it sold about 5 million units before the holiday season, and that it sold 9x as many for the rest of the year. We might never know the actual amount, as Amazon does not break these figures out. However, we do know it is one of the best selling holiday consumer events products released.
I can't wait to see what sort of innovation comes out of all this!
