iOS 10.3 Brings improvements to Siri

Apple has recently released the latest version of iOS, version 10.3.  This update includes a number of features including improvements to streamline the Settings App, a completely new file system (Apple File System - APFS),  smoother animations, Find My AirPods feature, along with enhanced CarPlay.

However, the new features we are most interested here at VoiceDesigned are the improvements to Siri.  These are mostly incremental improvements, but include:

  • Support for paying and checking status of bills with payment.
  • Support for scheduling with ride-booking apps
  • Support for checking car fuel level, lock status, turning on lights, and activating horn with automaker apps.  This seems like an improvement in the home automation area.
  • Cricket sports scores and statistics for Indian Premier League and International Cricket Council.  This points to how important the international market is for Apple.  Let's face it, most Americans are not too interested in Cricket (the sport).

Apple also updated watchOS to version 3.2, which mainly adds a new Theater Mode.  This turns on silent mode and keeps the watch screen dark, even when you raise your wrist.

Finally, the latest version of tvOS was released, Version 10.2.  Like watchOS, only minor features here.  Overall performance improvements like improved scrolling resulting in easier navigation.  It also adds the "Rent Once, Watch Anywhere" feature which is paired with iTunes 12.6.  This allows you to watch movies rented through iTunes on any device, regardless of where the rental was initiated.
